Summary

For the first time in depth and in public, Olympic soccer gold- medalist Christine Sinclair, the top international goal scorer of all time and one of Canada's greatest athletes, reflects on both her exhilarating successes and her heart-breaking failures。 Playing the Long Game is a playbook of earned wisdom on the value of determination and team spirit, and on the real leadership that changed the landscape of women's sport。

Christine Sinclair is one of the world's most respected and admired athletes。 Not only is she the player who has scored the most goals on the international soccer stage, male or female, but more than two decades into her career, she is still the heart of any team she plays on。 She captains both Canada's national team and the top-ranked Portland Thorns FC in the National Women's Soccer League。
Working with the brilliant and bestselling sportswriter Stephen Brunt, who has followed her career for decades, the intensely private Sinclair will share her reflections on the significant moments and turning points in her life and career, the big wins and losses survived, not only on the pitch。 Her extraordinary journey, combined with her candour, commitment and decency, will inspire and empower not only her fans and admirers, but also girls and women everywhere。

The nostalgia!! I’ve played soccer since I was 4 and though I was never good enough to go pro, I’ve never lost my love of the game。 Being a Canadian soccer fan specifically, Christine Sinclair basically lived in my living room through the most formative years of my life。 She, Kara Lang, Charmaine Hooper- they were my favourites, my heroes, but at that time there weren’t very many ways of letting them know just how important they were to this little girl in a mundane, suburban town。 This book rem The nostalgia!! I’ve played soccer since I was 4 and though I was never good enough to go pro, I’ve never lost my love of the game。 Being a Canadian soccer fan specifically, Christine Sinclair basically lived in my living room through the most formative years of my life。 She, Kara Lang, Charmaine Hooper- they were my favourites, my heroes, but at that time there weren’t very many ways of letting them know just how important they were to this little girl in a mundane, suburban town。 This book reminded me of moments that I aspired to be part of。In this book, I enjoyed learning more about Sinclair, her experiences, and the behind-the-scenes from tournaments I was glued to growing up and the most recent successes of our national team。 She’s been such an absolute power house, championing womens’ sport and leading by example。 I have so much respect and admiration for her。 In this book, she’s going to show you why。 I actually met Sincy once and I feel like I should really just take this moment to now apologize。 In this work, she discusses how uncomfortable she can sometimes feel in the public eye and I once ran into her on the street in Toronto。 I was gobsmacked。 I didn’t know what to say but I felt like I had to say something, just standing next to her I was nearly in tears。 But I can see how I added to that discomfort, and Christine, if you somehow ever do happen to come across this, I really am sorry for that。 I should have let you continue on your way to enjoy your Starbucks!Thank you so much to Penguin for my gifted ARC!! :) 。。。more
